Transfer of Waypoints
« on: 01-Sep-2005, 12:13:34 »
I want to transfer waypoints to my Garmin  GPSMap96 from the file tpLAS176 that I have created in GarminPCX 5AVD format. How do I do this?
Excuse my computer ignorance.

Sorry, I missed your post earlier. You need some additional software - the best is MapSource if you have that. You can download it for free from the Garmin web site though it does say you need an existing MapSource product to use it. However, someone else managed to use it successfully. Alternatively, EWView3 (costs) can be used or a program called Gardown (free). Whichever program you use, you need to choose a TpSelect format to match.

MapSource will currently take PCX5 format, but future versions won't, so I'll shortly be updating TpSelect to output in the new GPX format as well.

A good addition to TpSelect would be to build in a download capability, though that would take time!

PS: I'll probably move these posts to the TpSelect forum later

Thanks Jeff, I have Map Source.
I have been told that EW View and the EW logger are not compatible with the Garmin GPS96

Jeff,

There are a (slowly) increasing number of DLLs supplied as FR freeware by manufacturers and it would be much easier to have a common interface to the manufacturer-supplied DLL than to write individual download code for each recorder.

The DLLs are available on the IGC website and also a sample shell program with source. The full API for the interface is also available.

Tim - thanks for the information!

EDIT:

Hmmm: "La page est introuvable". They have a broken link, calling the page "feeware.asp" instead of "freeware.asp", which is an amusing slip.

The correct link for anyone who's interested is http://www.fai.org/gliding/gnss/freeware.asp

Jeff.
