Import from SeeYou
« on: 23-Mar-2006, 22:24:01 »
Jeff

Delighted to see the new import waypoint function.
Saves me appending a file of personal waypoints in TP Select format.

Now sorting out my Euroglide waypoint file for import into LX5000, currently in SeeYou. Delighted that TP Select gives me the tool to acheive this.

Importing waypoints from SeeYou (v3.4) into TP Select (v1.92).

TP Select treats the SeeYou elevation in meters as an elevation in feet.
Does not matter what units are used in SeeYou for display.

Any chance of correcting this?

ps: the correct elevation is shown in Seeyou on export from TP Select.

Also getting some "unrecognised format" errors on import from SeeYou into TP Select. I think this is mainly due to problems with the handling of the SeeYou "Code" field but not sure yet.

Best wishes

Rory

On the Unrecognised format for SeeYou imports:

TP Select does not seem to like SeeYou "codes" that are lower case.
It also seems to limit itself to five characters.

Landable?
TP Select seems to have some problem here with SeeYou types.

All my "Airports with grass runways" are unlandable.
A "mountain top" is landable?!
A "glider site" is landable (YES)
An "airport with solid runway" is landable (YES)

If a Seeyou user waypoint is less than 1km from a BGA waypoint then TP select asks if you want to import it.

However, whatever your anwser, even YES, TP select does not import that point.

Rory - many thanks for your helpful comments regarding SeeYou format. I'll certainly do my best to get these problems fixed asap.

I'll post here when I have something new.

Jeff.

PS: Re landable points: I suppose it depends how flat the mountain top is

Couple of things found so far: I didn't have a "proper" spec for the file format when I wrote the converter (I do now!). I based it on the BGA version where all the elevations are in feet; I didn't take the units (ft or m) into account. Also, I didn't have a full list of types and said that any number 4 or more was landable, anything less not. This ties in with what you said, now I've seen the full list.

I can see a couple of problems with the handling of "codes".

Should be easy enough to fix, though I'm already making some changes in other areas too, which may delay things a bit.

Jeff.

V2.0 is now released and addresses these issues.
